The Hardest-Working City in Arizona is… Scottsdale

Believe it or not, Scottsdale was named the hardest working city in Arizona and the 6th hardest-working city in America by a recent WalletHub survey

Three of the seven Arizona cities included in the analysis ranked among the top 15 hardest-working cities in the country: in addition to Scottsdale (6th), Gilbert (11th), and Chandler (15th) also made the list.  Phoenix ranked 52nd of the 116 cities surveyed.

To calculate the ranking, the researchers at Wallethub analyzed the average number of hours worked per week, the labor force participation rate, and the average leisure time per day for the nation’s largest cities. They also factored in how many workers held multiple jobs and how many hours per week people volunteered.

Next on the list from Arixzona: Glendale (66th), Mesa (72nd), and Tucson (110th).

Gilbert and Chandler ranked highly in large part due to the high percentage of people who have jobs. Gilbert had the seventh-highest labor force participation and Chandler had the sixth.

It was the average hours of work per week that pushed Scottsdale to #6. The city only ranked 24th for labor-force participation, but its people clocked more hours at the office than all but two other cities.

The top 5 hardest-working cities in America are:

  1. Anchorage, AK
  2. Virginia Beach, VA
  3. Plano, TX
  4. Sioux Falls, SD
  5. Irving, TX
