Genetic Testing to Identify Those at Risk of Developing Heart Disease with Dignity Health

Heart disease is the number one cause of death in the world but is highly preventable. Risk for heart disease is 50% acquired and 50% genetic. The genes predisposing to heart disease were only recently discovered. Utilizing a microchip to analyze a blood sample, one can determine genetic risk as well as acquired. Since the genetic risk is available at birth and does not change in one’s lifetime, this enables initiating early primary prevention before the disease develops. We have shown genetic risk can be prevented. We initiated the first study at Dignity Health determining both genetic and acquired, followed by recommended therapy. Learn more at
