Some appreciate the sales letters' humor and fresh approach, while others are not amused.

In a world of digital and social media, Mira Digital Publishing has reverted to old fashioned sales letters to get the attention of potential self-published authors. They have used some of Dan Kennedys ideas to create some off-the-wall headlines and letters. Dan Kennedy is a renowned marketing guru who has been around for many years and is famous for his unusual style.
Jeff Charlton, President of Mira Digital Publishing, said These letters seem sort of crazy. We use headlines that are not what you would typically see in a business letter. The authors either love them or hate them. However, we have found a dramatic increase in our positive response rate.
Headlines such as Should we Send out the Search Party? are typical. Mira has found that they get a much greater response from sending physical paper sales letter through the USPS as compared to email or online advertising. Direct mail costs more per piece, but you have a much better chance of getting the readers attention since it requires at least a little bit of effort to open the envelope and see whats in it as compared to being able to just delete an email with one click, Charlton said.
He continued, Even the negative responses we get, when prospects tell us how unprofessional our letters are, can be a benefit. We call the prospect and let them know that the whole purpose of the letter was to solicit a reaction from them and get them to contact us. We have converted some of the negative responses to orders.
