Cancer is a serious disease that can affect anyone in the country without a moment's notice. While the majority of attention goes to breast, lung or prostate cancer, there are dozens of other forms that attack specific areas of the body. Throat cancer is one form of cancer that can affect the way a person lives and, even if the person survives throat cancer, it can leave them with the inability to talk, consume food or do many of the very basic tasks they might do on their own. Understanding how throat cancer typically comes about and how a person is able to avoid this sort of cancer is very important and is the focus of this weeks "Leading Edge with Jimmy Johnson."

Throat cancer is usually the byproduct of consuming and ingesting dangerous material into the mouth. This often revolves around cigarettes and chewing tobacco. However, other materials and items can cause cancer of the throat, which requires very specific and immediate treatment in order to remove the cancer. Unlike other forms of cancer though, removing the tumor can force someone to lose their ability to talk, due to damage to vocal cords or even their ability to swallow and consume food.
