Waterford Institute's Reading Program Passes Colorado State Review to Become Approved Reading Intervention Tool
SALT LAKE CITY, June 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Colorado State Board of Education recently approved nonprofit research center Waterford Institute's Reading Program for its advisory list of reading intervention programs as part of Colorado's READ Act, a statewide effort to improve early learners' literacy and close learning gaps.
Passed by the state legislature in 2012, the Colorado READ (Reading To Ensure Academic Development) Act focuses on K-3 literacy, assessment and intervention for students reading below grade level.
As part of the act, the State Board of Education reviews and identifies quality reading instructional programs that will allow schools and teachers to accurately diagnose the source of students' reading difficulties and modify instruction to target those challenges. Approved programs must be research-proven and evidenced-based, and go through a lengthy review process.
Waterford Reading is a web-delivered, research- and evidence-based complete language arts curriculum for early learners. It includes thousands of learning activities, songs and books that cover crucial skills like phonics, vocabulary, writing, oral fluency and more.
Through adaptive learning software, Waterford Reading automatically tailors instruction to each student's individual learning needs, allowing them to progress at their own speed and ability. On-demand, easy-to-read reports also provide constant data on student and class progress and areas of difficulty to inform and assist teachers. To help schools intervene and sustain student success, Waterford Reading is coupled with professional development and coaching for teachers as well as offline tools.
Waterford Institute is a nonprofit research center that creates personalized cloud-based instruction through award-winning curriculum, content and assessment for children aged Pre-K to 2nd grade.
