WASHINGTON, Feb. 4, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA), a Senior Member on the House Appropriations Committee and lead Democrat on the Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and related agencies released the following statement on the newly announced Accelerating Medicines Partnership (AMP) – a collaboration between the National Institutes of Health (NIH), 10 biopharmaceutical companies and eight non-profit organizations. Fattah is architect of the Fattah Neuroscience Initiative, a non-incremental policy initiative seeking to achieve groundbreaking progress in understanding the human brain:
"The Accelerating Medicines Partnership (AMP) announced today invests $135 million in Alzheimer's research-a significant step forward for the neuroscience community. Realizing the magnitude of challenges in the field, this one-of-a-kind partnership will allow the affiliated organizations to more strategically direct time, resources, and funding towards pursuing new, successful diagnostics and therapies for Alzheimer's patients and their caregivers.
"I am thrilled to see the public and private sector join forces on this exciting pilot initiative that seeks to tackle Alzheimer's in an aggressive way. This model embodies the type of bold thinking that I and my colleagues in Congress need to support."
