NORWALK, Conn., Oct. 28, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- HealthDay is now offering physicians free Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits as part of its Physician's Briefing news service.
Physician's Briefing articles with AMA PRA Category 1 credits™ are available immediately and will increase to five daily articles by Dec. 1. The five specialties that will be featured include: Cardiology, Diabetes & Endocrinology, Family Medicine, Hematology & Oncology, and OBGYN & Women's Health. Additional CME specialties are planned for 2014.
According to Manhattan Research, a global pharmaceutical and healthcare market research and advisory firm, 72% of physicians own a smartphone or tablet and use this technology for professional purposes.
"Doctors are also using smartphones to participate in CME programs in small convenient doses; this isn't a new concept. More than one million CME certificates have been issued to physicians that read online news articles, answer questions, and register for CME credits. These numbers will likely increase exponentially as Physician's Briefing news service is syndicated to medical websites," HealthDay CEO Dan McKillen said.
Dr. Cindy Haines, HealthDay's Chief Medical Officer and Managing Editor of Physician's Briefing said, "I am very pleased that we have been able to combine CME credits and breaking clinical news with a trusted online partner. Providing continuing medical education for physicians enhances their ability to leverage technology, stay abreast of clinical updates and improve patient care." This new service is a result of the joint sponsorship of Paradigm Medical Communications, LLC and HealthDay. Paradigm Medical Communications, LLC is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing education credit to physicians.
Physician's Briefing currently offers a minimum of 15 articles per weekday covering up-to-the minute news about the latest research from medical journals, medical conferences, and government initiatives. More than 75 journals across 32 different specialties are reviewed by the HealthDay news team. After reading articles that are accredited for CME credits, physicians can create their own online accounts, track their learning activity and easily print certificates.
