RALEIGH, N.C., Sept. 17, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Tobacco Road Marathon Association (TRMA) has announced that registration for the March 16, 2014 fifth annual Allscripts Tobacco Road Marathon presented by Inside-Out Sports is open. Set in the invigorating backdrop of the Carolina pine-lined American Tobacco Trail (ATT) the event offers a flat, fast, granite-screen course that qualifies 10 percent of its competitors for the Boston Marathon. The BaySix Half-Marathon will run concurrently.
"Whether you are trying to qualify for Boston or are running your first marathon you'll find our course gives runners the best opportunity to achieve their running goals," says TRMA President, Founder and ten-time Boston Marathon Qualifier Kazem Yahyapour. "Not only do we have the fastest course in the state but the cool temperatures of early spring in North Carolina provide ideal running conditions."
The USA Track & Field (USATF) certified full and half marathon courses follow the same path for two miles and then diverge as full marathon runners head north and those in the half turn south to enter the ATT. The first two and last two miles of the courses are on paved roads – the rest are on the ATT. The runners will start from the USA Baseball & Thomas Brooks Park in Cary. The course is largely devoid of hills and the average high temperature for the date (51 degrees Fahrenheit) will deliver an ideal performance environment for runners.
All proceeds from both events will go to the following charities: JDRF, the Wounded Warrior Project, the Red Cross and the Rails to Trails Conservancy. Details about both races including on-line registration and training tips can be obtained through TRMA's Web site at www.tobaccoroadmarathon.com. Cash awards will be provided to overall winners for men and women as well as active military and masters runners. See the Web site for details.
Runners can take advantage of early registration favorable pricing by filing their entries before November 1. A post-race party will include a massage tent, beer garden and a wide variety of refreshments.
The Tobacco Road Marathon Association is a non-profit organization dedicated with its sponsors to providing financial assistance to its partner charities by channeling the passions of the North Carolina Triangle area's running community into a powerful force for good.
